Allergies

The London Road Clinic offers an unrivalled service for the investigation and treatment of allergy. If you suspect an allergic reaction, it is essential to identify the cause so you can take the steps to avoid the allergen and to receive appropriate medication and advice.

If I come to The London Road Clinic what will happen?

Most patients we see will undergo skin prick testing to assist in the diagnosis and overall management of the allergic condition. This involves placing test substances (allergens) on the skin of the forearm that are then pricked into the skin using a sterile lancet. This is not a painful technique and is easily performed on both children and adults.

In conjunction we may also perform specialist lung function testing (spirometry). This simple test measures how much (volume) and how fast (flow) you can move air in and out of your lungs. This procedure is essential for people who have been exposed to chemicals or irritants at work or home.

What will happen after testing?

Following a clinical diagnosis supported by appropriate allergy tests, an individualised treatment plan will be developed. The quality of life of the allergy sufferer can then be improved dramatically by specialist diagnosis and advice.

Can I just book into The London Road Clinic for this?

You can, but we prefer it if you bring or send a referral letter from your GP. This will then tell us of any past or ongoing medical conditions which you might forget to mention during your consultation.
