Balance services around the country may be reconfigured by the Department of Health over the next few years. Although change may be some time away, Peter Rea, Consultant ENT Surgeon at The London Road Clinic, has been working hard with colleagues from around the country in many disciplines to promote equal access to excellence for all throughout the UK by championing the "Leicester Model" with the DoH.
He says: “Currently patients travel from all over the country to specialist clinics like ours in Leicester for investigation and treatment of balance and dizziness disorders. The vision is for a named centre or individual in each region to receive all referrals to streamline care pathways, rather than the multiple referrals that occur in many parts of the country. It’s an exciting and expensive plan and only time will tell if it can be achieved."
