London Road Clinic ENT Consultant, Mr Anil Banerjee, gave a one hour lecture on an operation he has invented to reconstruct the ear canal in complex ear disease, at The First Virtua World Otology Conference.
The Conference which took place on March 25-27 2009 represented a major collaborative initiative among the world’s leading otologists.
The event was broadcast over the internet across time zones and allowed delegates the chance to download lectures to pass on to other clinicians.
The London Road Clinic was delighted that of the fifty speakers selected from countries around the world, Mr Anil Banerjee was one of only a handful of UK ENT Surgeons invited to speak.
"It was a strange experience giving a lecture over the internet to such a large group of clinicians," said Mr Banerjee, "but this format allows clinicians in poorer countries to download techniques that may advantage their local populations without the necessity to incur huge expenses traveling to conferences abroad. It may well be the start of a new trend in educational meetings."
