I was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease in 2002 and had very nasty severe episodes about three times a year until last year. I was informed by the ENT consultant whom I was seeing at the time that nothing much could be done for me apart from medication. My daily life became unbearable as last year the episodes escalated to two or three a week and I was afraid of doing the simplest of tasks on my own outside the house. I went from being a very independent woman to a shadow of my former self. We moved house and subsequently health centre. My new GP referred me to a Consultant ENT Surgeon at The London Road Clinic in Leicester. After a course of treatment my life had turned around. The consultant gave me confidence in the fact that this disease can be cured and I will never be able to thank him enough. It is a pity that everyone with a balance problem can’t be referred to The London Road Clinic. At the hospital I was told my snoring problem was caused by sleep apnea or bad jaw alignment, but they could not tell me which. I was then referred to The London Road Clinic and using the correct diagnostic equipment, they were able to pinpoint the sleep apnea that was causing my problems. Tests carried out concluded I was breath holding ten times an hour in my sleep. I use to wake up tired in the morning and often had a sore throat as a consequence of this. Following a specific type of surgery as a result of the earlier tests, just about immediately there was a massive improvement with the snoring and it has totally cured the sleep apnea.
